Screen brightness dark, recover without keyboard FN hotkeys?

I just slipped and slid the screen brightness all the way to dark.
I had no way to recover from this, not even ctrl+alt+f2/3 to commandline.

So I had to reset, losing all my work.

Is there a way to recover from this situation other than trying to switch to a commandline and issue a command to brighten the screen, going in blind with that... ?

Re: Screen brightness dark, recover without keyboard FN hotkeys?

Why not use the keyboard FN keys, do they not work?

Otherwise, create keyboard shortcuts for "xbacklight -inc 10" and "xbacklight -dec 10" (assuming they work) and use them.
