Indexing Xfce settings in Synapse

Hello,

I'm not sure that I'm on topic here. I use OpenBox with some Xfce components, xfce4-settings in particular. My problem is, Xfce Settings Manager and sub-settings are not visible in Synapse nor Gnome-Do (I tried both). I'm pretty sure I'm missing some important package. Can somebody point me in the right direction?

Re: Indexing Xfce settings in Synapse

I found this thread in the Manjaro forums, where they seem to address your problem.

Let us know if it worked. For the record, the solution proposed, in a nutshell, is:

enter the following text in your terminal (every line separate):

cd /usr/share/applications

sudo sed -i 's/OnlyShowIn=XFCE/#OnlyShowIn=XFCE/g' *.desktop

Re: Indexing Xfce settings in Synapse

Thank you! This is indeed what happens.

However modifying files in /usr/share/applications is a little too harsh for my taste. Copying to ~/.local/share/applications is a bit better but still not ideal. Unfortunately it's the only cure for Synapse: it seems to be hard-coded to search for GNOME .desktop files.

Luckily gnome-do is more flexible. It's sufficient to export XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=OPENBOX:XFCE for it to start recognizing Xfce programs. Now I'm a happy camper. big_smile
