Disable icon of unread notifications

I got this thing on my notification area when I adjust volume and don't click on corresponding notification: http://i.imgur.com/aRpEL4s.png
Is there a way to leave notifications working, but completely disable this icon? I know that I can hide it, but then there is a little triangle that shows that this icon is hidden.
