Desktop text beside icons

I am relatively new to some aspects of Unix, so if this is not a correct  forum please just redirect me without flaming.

I am running Ubuntu 16.04 and Xfce 4.12.

I would like to be able to have the Desktop in "Compact List" view or Icon view with "text beside icons" like I can set in the file manager folder windows.  I find having icon text to the right rather than under the icons is a lot more usable for me.

Is this possible (even if it requires editing and re-compiling source)?  If not, where can I submit a feature request?

I do not believe that is currently possible. All feature requests can be made at the bug tracker.
