Under KDE4 was used to start a start.sh shell with a mouse click.
That is my "good-old" PClinuxOS KDE4 with a start.sh. But as I am not going to KDE 5 and PCLinuxOS ist concentrating on KDE 5 and Mate, I have switched to Debian Xfce ...
Found the solution here -> http://docs.xfce.org/xfce/thunar/hidden-settings
~$ xfconf-query --channel thunar --property /misc-exec-shell-scripts-by-default --create --type bool --set true

PS. A final remark, without help by this forum here, I would for sure have swallowed the bitter pill and changed to KDE 5!

In Thunar, right click on the script > Open with > Open with another application* > Terminal emulator*.
There's a checkbox where you can make it the default action for that type of files, that should make it open with a simple mouse click.
Let us know if it worked!
*might be different in english, I'm translating from my locale
PS: Oh, I see you had your own proper solution, nevermind...
