Hi,
i'm usng the old xfce men, not the whisky menu. i want to sort the entries alphabetically but i can't find any setting for that. is this possible?
in whisker menu the entries are sorted correct, but i don't like the look of the menu. can i change the look into the look of the old menu? so that the window when i move the mouse over settings (or any other point) with the subpoints is as large as necessary. i don't like scrolling in the menu. i hope its clear what i mean.

not really sure if it works but have you tried to edit the default menu file(/etc/xdg/menus/xfce-applications.menu) ?

this isn't a list of all menu entries, its to short. what is this file for?

this file is your menu
eg:
<Menu>
<Name>System</Name>
<Directory>xfce-system.directory</Directory>
<Include>
<Or>
<Category>Emulator</Category>
<Category>System</Category>
</Or>
</Include>
<Exclude>
<Or>
<Filename>xfce4-session-logout.desktop</Filename>
</Or>
</Exclude>
</Menu>
thats the System submenu and it will incude all *.desktop files that are in the Emulator or System category
eg the thunar desktop entry:
[Desktop Entry]
Name=Thunar File Manager
...
Name[zh_TW]=Thunar 檔案管理員
Comment=Browse the filesystem with the file manager
...
Comment[zh_TW]=使用檔案管理員瀏覽檔案系統
GenericName=File Manager
...
GenericName[zh_TW]=檔案管理員
Exec=thunar %F
Icon=Thunar
Terminal=false
StartupNotify=true
Type=Application
Categories=System;Utility;Core;GTK;FileTools;FileManager;
is part of the System category so it is displayed here. xfce4-session-logout.desktop is also a part but it ill be hidden
also could you more explain wht you mean?
here is everything sorted.

this is the multimedia menu on my xubuntu. the tools audicious to xburn are sorted correctly but then the sorting starts from a again (bdsupedit - subtitleedit + acteoneiso - soundkonverter).
in the files you've posted i can't see any option to sort the menu entries.

Ah, i guess all of your wrong entries are KDE4 applications? and their desktop files are under /usr/share/applications/kde4? move them up to /usr/share/applications that should fix you issue. Also its probably a bug in xfce so feel free to report it.

hm thas weird did you try the update-menus command? also could it be that these lauchers are located on a different prefix? eg /usr/local/share/applications? or you local $HOME/.local/share/applications?

did you try the update-menus command?
How can i do this?
No, all launchers are located on /usr/share/applications. Also when i copy one of the launchers that are sort correctly and only change the name, the copy isn't sorted correctly. lets i create a copy of "audacious.desktop" and only change the name (not the name of the file, the same that is shown in the xfce menu) to audacious-copy, the new menu entry is shown not in the correct sort order.

Seems this doesn't work with the classic menu, but it works with whisker menu. but i don't like the look. can i change the look of the whisjer menu so that it looks like the classic menu?
