If the command "xfce4-screenshooter" is run directly without any options, and you step through the first window with the options, it obeys the config file just fine.
However, if it is given any options (-f for full window, -m for mouse etc) it'll skip the first window as it should, but it'll also ignore the config with all the other options such as the preferred action and last-used app, and overwrite it with whatever is selected at that time.
If the command is always invoked with an option(s), this has the appearance of the program forgetting the options every single time.
Is this a bug or intended behavior? Either way, is there any way to work around it?
xubuntu 16.04, xfce 4.12, xfce4-screenshooter 1.8.2-2

I believe this was just recently fixed (but not yet released). See this commit.

Ok, good to hear. Do these sorts of things get backported generally, or will the fix only be in artful/bionic/+ ?

It looks like the xfce4-screenshooter app only has one main branch, so unless your distro cherry-picks patches to backport, you will have to wait until the next release.
