[Solved] Wastebasket not working

Let me start off by saying that I have been Googling myself stupid(er) trying to resolve this issue. I have found many posts and thread about it some exhibiting the same errors and issues I have. Any and all of the solution I have tried have failed. So I thought I'd post here in specialist XFCE forum. I apologise if my Internet and forum searches have had the wrong search criteria and this issue has been addressed. resolved and done to death.

Distro: antiX Linux, based on Debian (Testing), Core - a minimal install with basic tools. systemd free.
Linux 4.10.5-antix.3-amd64-smp #2 SMP PREEMPT Fri Aug 11 17:04:46 BST 2017 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Desktop icon non-existence.

Accessing Wastebasket from Places:
wastebasket_error.png

antiX Linux Core ship without X, or a graphical DE.
I install xorg, nVidia/Radeon proprietary drivers, then install the Debian xfce4 meta package; thunar-volman; and gvfs...
*thunar is already the newest version (1.6.13-2).
*xfce4 is already the newest version (4.12.4).
*gvfs is already the newest version (1.34.1-2.0nosystemd1).
*thunar-volman is already the newest version (0.8.1-2).

Any pointers?

Re: [Solved] Wastebasket not working

Hello and welcome.

You need gvfs* installed and running. Strange thing is, I just downloaded the latest antix core iso, and the testing gvfs packages don't seem to have any lib or bin files included. Compare it to the stable release. It might be a packaging problem.

Re: [Solved] Wastebasket not working

ToZ, that's a great call. I reverted to the stable repos, ripped out gvfs* and autoremoved orphaned files.

I reinstalled the stable package and that did not resolve my issue. This may well be a packaging issue though, what files should I have (I'm thinking this could also have implications for  gvfs-mount and reason why I removeable (usb) drive are not automounted too, but one problem at a time eh?) big_smile

Re: [Solved] Wastebasket not working

Here is the gvfs testing package: http://iso.mxrepo.com/antix/testing/poo … _amd64.deb.
Here is the gvfs stable package: http://iso.mxrepo.com/antix/stable/pool … _amd64.deb.

Have a look at the contents of both. The testing package is missing the library files in /usr/lib/......
On my antix core install, I am missing those library files. The same is the case with the other gvfs-* packages which leads me to believe there is an issue with the packaging.

I'm not sure about installing the stable packages into testing. Make sure you have gvfs-backends and gvfs-fuse installed as well.

Re: [Solved] Wastebasket not working

I forwarded the link to this thread to anticapitalista, the antiX lead developer, and he responded just now:

Thanks Jerry - fixed debs uploaded to the repos. Should be available soon

Thanks for chasing that down, ToZ!

Re: [Solved] Wastebasket not working

Hey Jerry! Great to stumble on another antiX / Mepis user out in the wild.

I do visit the antiX Forum a lot and the guys there are very helpful. I genuinely thought I'd hit an issue based around my own ignorance of xfce rather than an actually problem with my distro. After 15 years with Linux I tend to blame myself first and take a lot of convincing the distro is at fault.

Thank you ToZ for getting to the bottom of the problem so quickly. I was at the point where I thought I wasn't installing a small, but crucial component and it turns out I was right but not at the level I was considering. More knowledge is more power. big_smile

Re: [Solved] Wastebasket not working

Welcome anticapitalista. Glad I could help.

Are there any plans to fix the packages in the stable branch as well?
Nevermind, got my repos mixed up.
