I have a Samba share mounted in Thunar, which has thousands of pictures and videos. I had to delete the thumbnail cache due to an issue with tumbler, and now all of the files have default blank tumbnails. If I manually open each video/picture, it generates a thumbnail, but the process is not automatic like it is on local folders - If I simply browse a directory in thunar that's on this computer, it will generate thumbnails automatically, however, for remote shares it seems to require opening the files.
In Thunar's preferences, 'show thumbnails' is set to always (as opposed to never/local files only).
Edit: This was partially related to SELinux on Fedora, I disabled it and it automatically generated thumbnails for images. However it still isn't working for videos, journalctl shows the following when I double click a remote video (and only then, still nothing seems to be happening for videos unless they're opened)
Feb 26 15:16:32 fedora tumblerd[29916]: g_path_get_dirname: assertion 'file_name != NULL' failed
Feb 26 15:16:32 fedora org.freedesktop.thumbnails.Thumbnailer1[1418]: invalid arguments

This is the best result I've found, labeled as "workaround", so... good luck!
