Fresh Xubuntu 16.04 install.
I've downloaded the theme here:
https://www.xfce-look.org/p/1182169/
It says its a GTK3 theme, and my Thunderbird and Firefox windows look cool, but thunar, settings editor, mousepad, and all my panels have the ugly default look. Inside the theme folder I see stuff for gtk-2.0 through gtk-3.22 (4 folders! What a mess!), so it looked like they had their bases covered.
I linked Equilux above, but this applied to axiom as well. I just want a dark theme! Why wasn't one that works included in default Xubuntu?

A good looking them, thanks for the link.
I had to move the Equilux and Equilux-compact directories to the .themes directory for it to work but it is fine on Fedora with GTK3.22. What version of GTK3 are you using? It has 3.20 and 3.22 so may not work with older versions.

Boom. Moving to .themes did it.
Why didn't it work before? I had it in .local/share/themes as advised like the wiki:
https://wiki.xfce.org/howto/install_new_themes
If it should really be in ~/.themes somebody ought to change the wiki page.
Thanks man.

I think both work on some distros but most do seem to use ~/.themes
