OK, i can change the thickness of the scroll bar for xfce apps, but not for all apps. the most problematic program for my in this case is firefox. in firefox it doesn't work.
and i can't change the look of the scroll bar. i want to edit it a little bit square.
edit
i also tried creating a file ~/.gtkrc-3.0 with the same content without success.

I found this: https://github.com/Izheil/Firefox-57-fu … rk%20theme
...but I haven't done any of this, you have to go on from here, good luck!
edit: the whole repo has tons of info, including a "legacy" way of tweaking the scrollbar: https://github.com/Izheil/Firefox-57-fu … scrollbars

I found a solution here: https://askubuntu.com/questions/775201/ … -scrollbar. firefox needs gtk-3.0.
I have to edit the *.css under /usr/share/... i couldn't find a solution without root. for gtk-2.0 i can create a file in the home directory that overwrites the settings in the theme folder. is there a similar solution for gtk-3.0?
Me target was to edit the look of the scroll bar for ALL applications, not only firefox. But i couldn't find out how to change the look of the scroll bar.

Did you read the second answer? It explains how to do it without root, and a method for gtk-2.0 apps as well.
Do you use any Qt apps?
Offline
Yes, i use also Qt Apps, but for now i only want to change that for gtk.
i can make the scroll bar wider for 2.0 and i will try the non-root solution for 3.0.
BUT: How can i change the look of the Scroll bar? So far i only edited the width. This is more are compromise solution.

I'm out of my element, I hoped someone more knowledgeable would chime in but alas...
That said, take a look at this: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/349 … lbar-image
