Thunar doesnt display icons of .desktop files

Hello

I made my own directory of applications containing xxxxx.desktop files. The files are copied there from /usr/share/applications. When I browse /usr/share/applications with thunar, the .desktop files all have icons (well most of them) But when I browse my own directory containing the copied files, no icons are shown. All file have the same cog icon or somehting. Why?

Same here (even if I copied the files as root), using Thunar 1.6.11 and Xfce 4.12 on Xubuntu 16.04.4.

Oddly enough, it works on one of my machines but not the other. And as far as I know, the systems are identical.

Let me see if I can find something in the code.

Edit: Ahhh. The file needs to be made executable for the icon to appear outside of /usr/share/applications.
