How to hide text-image on drag?

Mint 19 xfce

When i drag highlighted text, an image of the text being dragged sticks to the mouse. That image obscures the drop point-- you can't see the insertion point because it's blocked by the image. You can't see where you're about to drop the text.

How to turn off the image that sticks to the mouse, or change it's opacity?

I'm not sure if that tooltip can be selectively disabled. In GTK3, you can either disable or enable all tooltips throughout the system.

However, in your situation, the tooltip would have full opacity if you enable the compositor. If it is enabled, then it might be an issue with your video card driver.

The tooltip would have full opacity if you had the compositor enabled.

My tooltip has full opacity; therefore I must have enabled the compositor. Correct?

If it is enabled, then it might be an issue with your video card driver.

What must be an issue?

I think I'm using the wrong word. The tooltip in your image is not transparent. To make it transparent, enable the compositor (Settings Manager > Window Manager Tweaks > Compositor > Enable Display Compositing).

This will show you its status:

xfconf-query -c xfwm4 -lv | grep use_compositing

Does that help with making it easier to drop the text?

Yep, that's it. But that causes another issue.

The specific setting is "Opacity of popup windows". That changes opacity of the text-image.

Unfortunately, that setting also changes opacity of window icons when cycling with alt-tab, AND changes opacity of right-click context-menus. That is a problem.

Any way to just turn off that text image, instead of changing it's opacity?
