[SOLVED] - File name ! - Caja - Xcfe

Hello,
I am on Xbuntu 18.04 with Caja as file manager and desktop.
the file names are extremely long and I would like to reduce them but when I try to do it part of the name is missing.

here are two pictures:

Display when I want to rename

Do you have any idea how to display only the second version?

Thank you.
Valdo.

Bonjour,

Merci.
Valdo.

Re: [SOLVED] - File name ! - Caja - Xcfe

Seems like the key that can change this is captions in the org.mate.caja.icon-view schema.

 gsettings describe org.mate.caja.icon-view captions
A list of captions below an icon in the icon view and the desktop. The actual number of captions shown depends on the zoom level. Some possible values are: "size", "type", "date_modified", "date_changed", "date_accessed", "owner", "group", "permissions", "octal_permissions" and "mime_type".

You can check the value of that key with:

gsettings get org.mate.caja.icon-view captions

Setting the first to none will probably do it.

gsettings set org.mate.caja.icon-view captions '["none", "size", "date_modified"]'

Changing this key will affect the icon view in caja file manager as well.
The more you zoom in, the more details appear.

After setting it you will need to refresh the desktop with F5 key. Select one icon on the desktop and press F5.
I don't see a way to hide the file extension.

Great, awesome that's exactly what I needed!

Thank you Misko_2083, at random you would not know how to place the icons against the left edge of the screen and manually change the resolution of my television which serves as secondary screen that gives me the choice between 1360 x 768 and 1920 x 1080 while the main screen allows me to put 1650 x 1050.

You should start a new thread for those questions so people now and in the future can find them.
