Middle mouse button behavior

I'm on linux mint Tara and xfce 4.12 and I can't figure out how to configure either my middle mouse button, or a double-mouse-click function.

Ideally I would like to highlight text and have the middle button (or depressing both at the same time) paste.

I cannot find any (current) information on how to do that.

outdated/unrelated suggestions are to install bntx or gpointer, neither of which are in my repos so I am suspicious.

There was also suggestions to edit a file under /etc/X11 but I can't find that info to reference here.

Any ideas?
