i notice in the list of panel plug-ins, there are 2 different clocks. one is named just "Clock" while the other i named "Orage Panel Clock".
why are there two? if one is better than the other, then why not have it replace the other? which should i use and why?

You might be surprised to learn that there is a third: datetime plugin. There has been some discussion on #xfce-dev about combining the datetime plugin with the clock plugin. Differences:
- clock = basic clock plugin that supports different types of clocks (analog, binary, digital, fuzzy, LCD) and supports pango markup
- datetime = basic clock that allows you to specify different date/time settings from the GUI
- orage is a calendar, appointment and time management application. Hasn't been updated in quite a while.

given that Xfce wants to be small there should be a choice between something small and basic and something more fancy.
what is pango markup?
