different terminal window header

i made a change to my desktop launcher for a terminal such that the "script" every user has reference by exec= from the .desktop file is now a symlink to a shared common copy.  this lets me save a tiny amount of space and break thinks for all users by editing that one file.  so i tested this and the terminal window it opened for this one particular user (but not any others i tested) was decorated differently than usual.  you can see it here.  does anyone recognize this and know how it got enabled?  it looks like it might be useful although i might like to shrink it a bit.

also, the thin white border the terminal window has all around it for other users is not there for this user.

and the usual top title bar and its button is missing.
