I just installed Ubuntu 18.10 (I think it's that since /etc/issue says "Ubuntu 18.10") and can't get that darned clipboard working. I installed clipit from the repository and figured that was the end of it. I notice that on my main computer the program which looks similar is called clipman, but that doesn't seem to be available.
The program is active and I have enabled various combinations of actions. But no matter what I do I am unable to paste a single thing to the clipboard.
I've enabled the load gnome stuff in the startup->advanced and in startup->autostart.
I also tried parcellite, but that didn't work either.
Honestly, it shouldn't be that hard Everything else seems to be working.

Do you mean you can't use the clipboard at all, you can't copy and paste, etc, or it's just the advanced clipboard manager functions like history, actions, autopaste etc that don't work?
I have ClipIt 1.4.2 in MX-Linux 18 (Debian based), working properly. There's an item for it in Session and Startup > Application Autostart that I think appears automatically on install, no need for Advanced > Compatibility > Launch GNOME services on startup option to be checked. Could you share your ClipIt / Application Autostart configs?

I've not tried copying anything from the clipboard ... nothing to copy since I can't seem to get anything in it But, it is running (I think ... the icon is in the panel and it's accessible). Here's the rc contents:

I should add that this problem is from any application running on the 2nd box. For example, copying something from a facebook post or a terminal to the clipboard. Of course, if I log into the box from my main terminal using ssh it all works

Try unchecking Preferences > Settings > Miscellaneous > Capture hyperlinks only.

Okay, just tried that.
No joy. No difference.
Gosh, can this be that hard? I also tried to enable Sync clipboards, but that makes no difference either. My list of clips continues to be empty.

Mmm, what's the output of
ps aux | grep clip
What's the output of
xclipboard
I'm stuck too (yes, it shouldn't be that hard, we might be missing something).

I did this logged in via ssh, but I think it's same if I'm really there.
$ ps aux | grep clip
val 14673 0.6 0.4 513224 34600 ? Sl 12:33 0:52 clipit
bob 15851 0.0 0.0 19176 824 pts/0 S+ 14:49 0:00 grep --color=auto clip
$ xclipboard
Error: another clipboard is already running
So, I think it proves that clipit is there? Not sure what "clip" is, but it's on my working box as well.
Thanks again.

Well ... got it working. But, not to the point to labeling this as "solved". I reformatted the drive and installed Ubuntu and then install XFCE4 on top of that. Now I get clipman (not clipit) and all works like a dream. Thanks for the help!

Yeah, reformatting/reinstalling isn't how problems should be solved, haha, we'll see if someone else encounters a problem like yours in the future.
Happy pasting!
