Ctrl key not working when selecting

Hello all.

I use Linux Mint 18.3. / Xfce 4.12 / Kernel 4.15.0-46-generic x86_64 / language-keyboard layout German (Austria)

... and i have the problem that i can't select multiple things (Files in thunar, boxes in calc, whatever) when i use the ctrl-key+left mouse button. Select things in a row with the shift-key+left mouse button is working. Other functions with the ctrl-key (like ctrl+a, ctrl+c, ctrl+x, ctrl+v,... ) are working perfectly. Also the selecting multiple things worked well at the beginning. But some day (i can't remember exactly when) it stopped working.

I already tried to set application shortcuts back to standard. But i didn't change anything. Still not working.
I still have the 4 standard entries ctrl+ and no entries with only ctrl.

On all my other computers running Mint ctrl + mouse button works fine.
It would be a mess if i have to reinstall mint here because it's my pc at the office and i would have to restore everything. :-/

Does someone has an idea how to get this function back??
