Hello there,
I looked into "Settings Manager > Preferred Applications", and I discovered my web browser (Vivaldi) appeared twice.
Just to know what happens, I uninstalled the browser, and one of the two launchers remained, however the icon was gone. When reinstalling, there were 2 launchers again.
I searched for the list of preferred applications, to know what the error was, but I couldn't find it. Also, I don't know what Xfce4 package to reinstall, or where a second launcher would be found.
The applications menu shows only one launcher.
It's not a major problem, only sometimes it causes I/O errors.
My system:
OS: Arch Linux x86_64
Kernel: 5.0.7-arch1-1-ARCH
WM: Xfwm4

Hello and welcome.
Have a look in the following directories to make sure that you don't have an errant vivaldi desktop file:
- /usr/share/applications
- /usr/local/share/applications
- $HOME/.local/share/applications

It's highly unlikely that this is causing I/O errors - you may have a problem with your hard drive.

Thanks for your answer.
With Vivaldi installed, I have 1 .desktop in /usr/share/applications.
I don't have the /usr/local/share/applications folder, nor the /root/.local/share/applications.
When uninstalled, there is no launcher in the specified directories.
A problem with my hard drive is quite unlikely, it's an SSD and not even 2 years old. Also the error message tells "I/O error", but it only happens when opening a link from the Discord app.
Also it was fixed after I tried a few things and restarted the session. However when I restarted the whole computer the error was still there ?

Which error? The extra entry for Vivaldi or the I/O error?

The I/O error only happens only when opening a link from Discord.
The double Vivaldi entry is permanent -and I don't know where to remove the executable/shortcut

Can you post the contents of your ~/.local/share/xfce4/helpers folder? Is there a file in there that references vivaldi?

Indeed, there is "vivaldi-stable.desktop" in .local/share/xfce4/helpers.
I remove it, reboot and see what. (logging off and on again fixes the issue, but I don't really understand why.)
I'll edit this post accordingly.
OK, so I had to redefine the preferred web browser, but I only had one Vivaldi inside it. Seems to be fixed. I'll mark the topic as solved if I don't have the problem coming back until tomorrow.
The problem with Vivaldi showing up twice is solved, so I mark this thread as solved, but I still get "I/O error". Let's google this again !
