Update mime database without logout

Hi,

when i create a new mime type by creating a new file in ~/.local/share/mime/packages thunar doesn't show the new icon when i restart thunar. i have to logout and login again. also

update-mime-database ~/.local/share/mime

doesn't work.

See this thread, where, incidentally, they recommend running gtk-update-icon-cache for Xfce.
