Show buttons when hiding title bar

Hiding the window's title when the window is maximized also hides the buttons usually placed on the title bar (close/minimize/maximize etc.).
Is there a way of showing those buttons while hiding the title bar ?

Firefox and Thunderbird both have an option to hide the title bar and incorporate the buttons in their tool bar. But if the title bar hiding is done through the window manager, then maybe the apps don't know about it and stay the same.

The xfce4-windowck-plugin might still work. It's not an official part of Xfce, but your distro might still package it. It puts the window controls on the panel.

Thanks, xfce4-windowck-plugin is an awesome plugin. Unfortunately looks like it is not actively maintained and currently has some issues with xfce4-panel version 4.14: https://github.com/cedl38/xfce4-windowc … is%3Aissue

I use this plugin for a longer time on my current archlinux-pc. No problems so far. Hope this will last.

I have a way but it might not be what you are looking for.This just removes the title and not the title bar.
Anyways here goes -
xfconf-query -c xfwm4 -p /general/title_font -s "KacsArt Bold 0" This just makes the title font 0 i.e. removes it but it keeps the title bar hence the buttons

I'm going to go out on a limb here, and assume that you want to see those buttons, not because you like the looks of them, but because you want to have access to their functionality, yes?

If that is the case, then I suggest to you an alternative solution.......

Make 3 global keyboard shortcuts that do what the three buttons do.  For example, on my system, since I don't do any window tiling, I have set the keyboard shortcut of Super/Windows key PLUS Arrow Down key to minimize any window.   I have Super/Windows key PLUS Arrow Up key to maximize any window.  And finally Control PLUS Super/Windows PLUS Arrow Down keys to close any window.  Of course, you can choose any key combo that you are comfortable with.

I have full control of any screen window this way, no matter if it's in full screen mode or otherwise (as far as those 3 window buttons are concerned).   Just a thought............

UPDATE:  I just noticed how old the OP was.   I probably could have saved myself some typing if I had looked at the date...  :-)

Well, if we're necro-bumping, I would approach the issue from a different angle--embed the xfce panel in the windows titlebar. That way, you save the same amount of space and keep the minimize/maximize/close buttons visible.

I use a number of small computers, 7-inch screens or less, and the embedded panel is one of the many reasons why xfce is great on smaller devices.
