i switched back to user "phil" and there was an authentication prompt asking me to authenticate for an application wanting to do amount and it gave manufacturer info for 2 of my hard drives. searching processes i found Thunar-volman, forked from Thunar --daemon, trying to mount /dev/sdc4, which is a backup space for /dev/sda4 (/home). i am not running anything in user "phil". backups are not running and when it does, it runs as root and mounts what it needs without prompting (maybe i should add that). so, i am curious what triggered this. no process is running mount. looking around more, i find that every logged in user has Thunar-volman trying to do this and sdc1 is mounted in /media. should i cut off the internet?

i clicked Cancel on that prompt in user "phil" and all 5 of those Thunar-volman processes went away.
