How is displays.xml utilized by XFCE?

Is the file used to generate xrandr commands or something lower level? I have a bit of a hard time following the git repo.
If somebody could direct me to the source file or some other resource on the matter I would be very grateful.

Re: How is displays.xml utilized by XFCE?

Hello and welcome.

The file itself just stores the configuration information. In fact, when Xfce is running, these settings are moved into memory and managed by xfconf. On a live system, you should use xfconf-query (or the gui tools) to manipulate the settings.

With respect to xrandr, it uses libxrandr (e.g. https://git.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-setting … ays.c#n235 and https://git.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-setting … ce-randr.c) to manipulate the displays.
