why is it not possible to add "notification area" plugin?

why is it not possible to add "notification area" plugin? i think maybe because it is already there and it is not allowd to put it 2nd time. if so, where it is and is it possible to remove it from panel? btw notifications appear at right upper corner, while panel is at left border. so seems this area is not located at panel.

One of the reasons that the notification area is greyed out is because it is already running on a panel (you are only allowed one instance of it). This command will help to identify if it is:

xfconf-query -c xfce4-panel -lv | grep systray

It's in the Items tab in panel Preferences.

The notification service is different from the notifications area. The desktop notifications (those in the corner) can be configured in the notifyd settings dialog.
