Auto restart Tumbler...

I was using Manjaro and MX for a minute and one of those had a Tumbler auto-restarting feature. Tumbler often crashes when viewing media. Could we please get this feature too?

I can produce a screenshot to illustrate what I'm talking about but it simply produces thumbnails for media up to a point where it encounters something that crashes it, then everything after is just a blank icon until the system is restarted.

Love XFCE though! I switched to it when Ubuntu switched to Gnome 3 (After Ubuntu 10.10) and then never looked back.

Are you able to provide some log file entries with error messages when this happens? Ubuntu distros should have an ~/.xsession-errors file. Or if you are using systemd, this command after the issue happens might help:

journalctl --no-pager -b 0 | grep tumbler

Ideally, the issue should be fixed - maybe a bug report is required.

As for using the Manjaro or MX workround, are you referring to this script? It checks to see if tumblerd is using too much CPU or memory and if so, restarts it. By default, tumbler will shutdown and restart when needed on its own.

Which distro and which version of tumbler are you running?
