I am using Picard 1.4.2 I am not able to write metadata after finding the info on mp3 files. The debug log from Picard is below. Maybe this will shed some light.

Re: Picard and Linux mint 19.3 xfce

Why would that be the case in the home folder, is this a Picard issue or xfce? I am thinking its Picard

Re: Picard and Linux mint 19.3 xfce

What does the following show:

ls -l "/home/main/Music/test mp3 /Blue (Da Ba Dee) EM.mp3"

EDIT: Also:

ls -l /home/main/Music | grep test

Re: Picard and Linux mint 19.3 xfce

I figured it out after I used the commands ToZ provided I noticed a clue the padlock on each mp3 file. Yes you can say duh if you like I did to myself. The folders access rights I changed. I had to change each files read access to read and write. Here is a question why would files which are from a data disc to the folder be locked for use in the home directory could it be due to being from a data disc?  They were wave files which I converted after copying to the music test folder.

I have had this happen on rare occasions when I was transferring the files or altering the files using a program as Root.
Sometimes, I forget that I elevated to Root or the Program in question operates Root rather than normal user.
Synaptic is an example of Running from Root (though, keep in mind, the Synaptic Package Manager is not a relevant program for YOUR case, it's the first one that came to mind).

Re: Picard and Linux mint 19.3 xfce

I realized that the wave files from my music data disc were also read only which was why I saw a padlock on each wave file after I copied them to the music folder But I did not occur to me to change them before converting them. As a test I  set read/write to the waves before converting them. After this the mp3 are read/write and Picard can add the data it finds.
