I've been having problems with Thunar for ages, whereby it crashes intermittently during basic file operations esp copying & new folder creation. I'm fixing to follow this thread for help but figured I'd ensure I'm at the latest version first. Software says I have 1.8.9 installed but if I click Launch (or open thunar normally) the 'About' box says 1.8.2 as does 'thunar --version' in terminal:
Can anyone suggest the best way to clear this up and ensure I'm using the latest version going forward? The package on launchpad (https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunar) is newer than the github and is in the universe repository so I'd assume I should be getting the latest version but clearly something's odd - I believe I installed v1.8.2 from github so maybe that's preventing Software from updating it to 1.8.9 etc?
Any thoughts much appreciated.
Xubuntu 19.10 eoan ermine.

What does the following return:
which thunar
which Thunar
I believe I installed v1.8.2 from github
How did you install it? Do you still have the source around to uninstall it?

Hi Toz, thanks for the quick reply.
Both whichs return /usr/local/bin/thunar
I reckon I probably did the ./configure, make, make install route. Thus I've just done 'sudo make uninstall' from that directory (/home/Thunar1.8.2) and rebooted. "thunar --version" is now 1.8.9 and Sunday's todo list marches forwards!
As always, thanks so much for the nudge in the right direction Toz. Have a good one sir.

Yes. /usr/local/bin takes precedence to /usr/bin. Glad its all worked out.
