can't type anything in whiskermenu search field

when I click on Menu button, whisker menu comes up and everything is normal and as expected .
the problem is when I press super button to use the whisker menu : the menu is showing but the pointer is not focused on the menu (I can't select any apps by using the arrow keys) , so I have to use mouse to select an app .
The main problem is, even when I click on the search field on the top of whisker menu, I can't type anything there!
only if i rightclick inside the search field and  select "insert emoji" option , after entering and removing the emoji I'm able to type apps names , and arow keys also start to work .
Why this is happening? help me please.

Re: can't type anything in whiskermenu search field

In Settings > Keyboard > Application Shortcuts, are you sure that just the single key "Super" is the command for the xfce4-popup-whiskermenu entry? In Xfce 4.14, at least as we have it, the command uses the combination of two keys: "Super" + "L"

I added some entries under Settings > Keyboard > Application Shortcuts , but they won't work . I set shortcut for xfce4-popup-whiskermenu under ~/.icewm/keys

Re: can't type anything in whiskermenu search field

Thanks for the details, I would have asked for them next. Unfortunately, I don't know IceWm at all, so can't help you troubleshoot those keys. But I do have a couple of questions:

--are you able to bind your current key combination to xfce4-appfinder instead and, if yes, does the search box work there?

--have you tried a different key combination such as Super + W or Alt + W?

I tried every possible way . also appfinder does not support searching .
however , I gave up on that . and installed xfce4 from scratch . now everything is working .
thanks

It was your input method.  IBus or something other than IBus, in case you have this problem next time.
