While playing with the Window Manager settings, I must have clicked a wrong option. Now the following things are happening:
1. The Window bar of the windows has vanished. So I do not see the window title. min/max/close buttons are also absent since the bar itself is not there.
2. When I run an application, the previous window minimises automatically. That is, there is always one window on the screen, others are all minimised.
I wonder what I did wrong! Can anyone help?
Warm Regards

Sounds like xfwm4 stopped running. Try starting it up again by running:
xfwm4 --replace
...in a terminal window.

I created a dummy user, and when I logged in, it was behaving properly. I compared the WM settings for both accounts. It seems the following option was creating the problem:
Opacity of Inactive Windows
It was set to transparent, resulting in all unfocussed windows vanishing and the title bar of the active window also being absent!
Thanks for your tip, ToZ. If the above had not worked, your tip would be the last resort indeed!

Sanjay
