I followed this guide https://wiki.xfce.org/howto/install_new_themes
I placed a theme (https://www.xfce-look.org/p/1015448/) in every folder mentioned there, but it won't show up in the settings under "Appearance". Furthermore, I have a bunch of themes in the /usr/share/themes folder, and those don't show up either. The only themes that show up are Adwaita, Adwaita dark, and high contrast. When I look at youtube videos of people ricing their xfce, all of the themes that I have in /usr/share/themes show up in their "Appearance" settings.
I run Arch linux, btw.

Hello and welcome.
I run Arch linux, btw.
Then you ae using the GTK3 version of Xfce.
I placed a theme (https://www.xfce-look.org/p/1015448/)
That theme is a gtk2 theme only (you can tell because it has a gtk-2.0 folder). GTK2-only themes are no longer supported since Xfce moved to GTK3.
You can still try setting it manually so that gtk2 apps will use it, but all gtk3 apps (including all components will then default to Adwaita (the default GTK3 theme):
xfconf-query -c xsettings -p /Net/ThemeName -s "CDE"
The theme is also missing an index.theme file - you might need to manually create one to get it to work.
Your best bet is to find a theme that supports both GTK2 and GTK3. For example:
- https://www.gnome-look.org/p/1231025/ - drop the extracted cdetheme ot cdetheme-solaris folders into ~/.themes.
- https://superuser.com/questions/1222603 … gtk3-theme - a couple of other options.
Please remember to mark your thread [SOLVED] to make it easier for others to find
