I have defined my own keyboard layout variant and I can't get it to show up in the keyboard layout variant dropdown list.
According to https://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Softwa … fig/Rules/ I'm supposed to put it into /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/base.extras.xml. That doesn't work. Putting it into /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/base.xml doesn't help. evdev.extras.xml and evdev.xml seem to be just copies, changing them did not help either.
The only thing I could not adapt is the translation file because that is a binary (.mo).
I tried sudo dpkg-reconfigure xkb-data, relog and reboot. My variant shows up with localectl list-x11-keymap-variants [language] - but still not in the xfce gui. Editing an existing variant works fine though.
System: Debian 10 buster, non-english
Where does xfce-settings get the keyboard layout variants from?
