gnome-flashback-metacity VS xfce, which one uses less resource?
Thanks.

Its really easy to test this. Install both and compare.
On the same ArchLinux VM with vboxservice running, new user, using default configs, with a display manager, on fresh boot and login, after 5 minutes wait (for startup routines to complete):
Xfce = 275MB ram, 6.5% cpu usage
.
gnome-flashback-metacity = 276MB ram, 7.3% cpu usage
So, pretty much the same in this test.

Thanks, ToZ. Does your VM have gnome3 installed by chance? If so, may you please share gnome3's data for that VM? Just interested to know.
I come across this web, https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page= … nome&num=1. On beefy physical machine, gnome 3 is not slow anymore, according to the web.

Installed the gnome package and I get 497MB ram and 14.8% cpu usage.
Keep in mind this is just by installing the base packages as available in Arch which tend to be close to upstream as possible and no tweaking, configuring, enhancing, etc.

Yeah, with a beefy physical machine you could run any DE - or all of them together.
