Hi everybody!
I try to connect external monitor to my Thinkpad Yoga S1 laptop via Onelink dockstation (I have a non-pro model with only hdmi video input). Strange things happen:
- the monitor works when I'm at graphical login screen, but I see no window with login/password prompts, only the wallpaper;
- when I log in to the DE, the monitor turns off and says "No signal";
- XFCE display settings show the monitor but say it's "disabled";
- when I say $ xrandr --verbose --output eDP1 --auto --output DP1 --auto --right-of eDP1 (or enable the display in arandr), the monitor winks (but shows no picture), windows kind of move from laptop display to the monitor (at this moment XFCE display settings stop showing "disabled" title for the monitor) but return back few seconds later. After few more seconds, the monitor shows "No signal".
When the monitor is connected directly to the laptop, it works well. Also, the monitor connected via this dock works well on another Thinkpad with Windows.
One time, after few attemmpts to set up displays with xrandr, the monitor suddenly became enabled and started showing second desktop, but when I disconnected the dock and connected it back, monitor stopped working again. Couldn't reproduce that yet.
Found some relevant topics here but no one was exactly like my case:
- https://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=12268: here xrandr says it failed to configure something — not my case
- https://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=12560: here xrandr says that the monitor is disconnected — but mine says it's connected
I'm on Manjaro, XFCE 4.14-3.

Update: I plugged HDMI cable out and in from the dock, and after that the monitor started to work. Have no idea why though...

It's good that it's working. I have read some reports about turning off the compositor though. I guess it's getting in the way.

Running xfsettingsd in debug mode may yield some useful information.

For the record: I realized that before plugging the HDMI cable in and out, I went to XFCE display settings and deleted monitor configuration profile which was active at the moment (d2e7d420158f3b134f0ee7aeeb3c4cadb16a6039 in my case, see xfconf-query output). Can't remember any other possible reason.
Now the monitor works fine. Thank you all for your responses.
