thumbnail for the volume control gone?

Sometimes thumbnail can be a pain, but I'm REALLY missing the one for the volume control. It just disappeared after an update. Please can someone tell me how to get it back? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: thumbnail for the volume control gone?

Hello and welcome.

Are you referring to the pulseaudio panel volume control? If so, just add it back to the panel.

Re: thumbnail for the volume control gone?

Actually it just says volume icon. It's just the icon that comes in the tray. I used to be able to just put my cursor on it and would get a little window that would tell me the volume level. After the last xfce update it no longer gives me that nice little piece of info. It's actually a little thing, just very annoying. I can still change the volume level when I put the cursor on the icon with the mouse wheel, it just doesn't tell me at what level it's at.
I'm sorry.............Thank you for the welcome! XFCE is my number one desktop now for the last couple of years now. Thanks to all who help make it the best!

Re: thumbnail for the volume control gone?

Which distro, what version of Xfce and what version of xfce4-panel are you running?

xfce4-about -V
xfce4-panel -V

Can we see a list of the plugins you have installed now?

xfconf-query -c xfce4-panel -lv

And finally, do any tooltips work for you? Or is just the audio tooltip that isn't working?

Re: thumbnail for the volume control gone?

I'm using MXLinux with panel XFCE 4.14 and the tooltips for the HP printer and the tooltips for updates works and the one for the clock works. But those are the only ones working anymore. Sorry I should have told you the OS to begin with, especially since it still uses sysv init. I'm not sure how to get the from the last command you gave me other than to copy and paste into here:

Re: thumbnail for the volume control gone?

You don't have the pulseaudio plugin added to the panel. Which panel sound mixer app are you using? If you right-click on it, do you get an About or Help link?

Or:

xfconf-query -c xfce-panel -p /plugins/plugin-6/names-visible

Re: thumbnail for the volume control gone?

If it is the volumeicon-alsa, then you'll just have to add it back on the session and startup - the command for it is volumeicon

Re: thumbnail for the volume control gone?

I want to thank you for your help, but nothing seems to get it back like it was. I've got it to work halfassed any way. I right clicked on the icon selected preferences then OSD and switched from libnotify to GTK+popup and now I get a popup that gives me the volmume icon with the numbers when I put the cursor on the vol. icon and work the wheel, which is good enough for me. Thank you for your help!

Re: thumbnail for the volume control gone?

UPDATE........Got another update from the MXLinux team for XFCE and everything is now back to normal for all thumbnails. Thank you very much for your help, I guess next time I'd better just wait a bit longer hmm
