hello everyone,
im using debian with xfce4 desktop environment.
and these days i've bought a new display which supports 2k resolution (2560x1440)
but i cannot set the correct resolution, in the `Display` setting dialog, it only provide 1920x1080 and 1920x1200 but no higher.
below is the output of my `neofetch`:
```
OS: Debian GNU/Linux 10 (buster) x86_64
Host: MS-7B84 2.0
Kernel: 4.19.0-9-amd64
Uptime: 16 hours
Packages: 3319 (dpkg)
Shell: zsh 5.7.1
Resolution: 1080x1920, 1920x1080
DE: Xfce
WM: Xfwm4
WM Theme: Dark-Olympic
Theme: Adwaita-dark [GTK2], Dark-Olympic [GTK3]
Icons: Tango [GTK2], nuoveXT2 [GTK3]
Terminal: xfce4-terminal
Terminal Font: Iosevka Term SS14 Medium 18
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600X (12) @ 3.600GHz
GPU: AMD ATI Radeon HD 6770
Memory: 16815MiB / 32180MiB
```
the GPU is a bit old, but i think it could support 2k resolution.
any ideas?
thank you.

Hello and welcome.
What connection are you using? I believe HDMI only supports up to 1900x1200. You may need to use the DVI-I or Display Port connections.
What does "xrandr" return?

The X server is only recognizing those smaller resolutions. This isn't really an Xfce issue.
Here is an interested thread from the Mint forums on a similar problem and the solution being with using a proper hdmi cable (one that supports 1.4a) and a custom modeline.

Which driver are you using? That could be the limiting factor.

yes, now i think it's not about xfce itself, but about the driver.
here is the info about driver:
$ sudo dpkg --list | grep radeon
ii libdrm-radeon1:amd64 2.4.97-1 amd64 Userspace interface to radeon-specific kernel DRM services -- runtime
ii libdrm-radeon1:i386 2.4.97-1 i386 Userspace interface to radeon-specific kernel DRM services -- runtime
ii xserver-xorg-video-radeon 1:19.0.1-1 amd64 X.Org X server -- AMD/ATI Radeon display driver
it's the latest driver in debian repository.
my hdmi cable is ok, but the customer modeline just doesnot work.
