Hello and welcome to the forum!

Do you have the option "Adjust size automatically" activated in Panel Preferences > Appearance tab > Icons? (You can reach it also via Settings > Panel)

Doing so will increase the spacing in the notification area and the volume icon.

Try selecting another icon. It's likely the padding in the image.

Right click on the whiskermenu>>properties>>panel button.

It can be anything you find appropriate. I use a version of my avatar.
