Desktop icons moving around

System is FreeBSD 11.3 / xfce-4.14.

I have read the related threads (that I could find). I tried the BSD version of [sudo chattr +i ~/.config/xfce4/desktop/icons*]. Namely I made all the files owned by root. It comes to me now I did not restart xfce. I see the change only when changing the panel hide options. I [apparently] moved the icons around when the panel was set to hide intelligently. So all is good on never and intelligently and randomly scatters them about on never. Changing back reorders the icons.

I do not remember having this happen until recently. Anyone got any ideas on what I may have done. Changing the file permissions might work but it is too much of a bother to fix this. Thanks for any thoughts
