Text renders blurry/inconsistently in VSCode

I switched to xfce yesterday (i've used xfce on other machines in the past) and just noticed that font rendering is blurry and inconsistent. I've noticed this effect in VSCode so far, so I'm unsure if this problem relates to the combination of xfce and vscode or if it's with xfce itself. The following image shows the difference in rendering quality (the first one is the first line of the builtin terminal in vscode, the second one is somewhere in the middle):
