Performance issue: the GUI terminal rendering performance is slow.

Hello experts,

I noticed one thing: on Ubuntu20, the GUI terminal rendering performance is apparently much slower that gnome flashback.

Repro:
Install Ubuntu20. Install xfce and gnome flashback.
Login xfce first.
Open gnome terminal. Make the window max size. My resolution is 1920x1200.
Press "a" key on keyboard. Do not release. So "a" will be repeated.
Similarly, logout xfce and login gnome flashback.

Observed:
To fill in one line, xfce takes 10.59 seconds while gnome flashback take only 6.23 seconds.

Expected:
xfce should as least as fast as gnome flash back.

Comments:
On VM, the issue will be even worse. Since Linux user generally uses GUI terminal a lot. This is very import to user experience.

Thanks.

Re: Performance issue: the GUI terminal rendering performance is slow.

Did some more measurement.

Actually, for Ubuntu default and Ubuntu wayland, they both takes about 6-7seconds.

So xfce behavior seems a bug too me.

Thanks.

Re: Performance issue: the GUI terminal rendering performance is slow.

Check your key repeat settings in Settings > Keyboard as they may be set differently than other DE's.

Mine defaulted to a Repeat speed of 20 with a delay of 500. Upping the repeat speed and/or lowering the delay might get them closer to equal.
