Running XFCE 4.14 on a Ubuntu 20.04 virtual machine.
As the title states the power went out the other day and now the mouse does not show up on the desk top, although if I open and application it will show up there. The system headers (I think you call them) {Now I see they are called Title Bars}, the bars at the top of applications and consoles are missing. And the desktop background, which I had set to a solid colour is just black and when I try to change it, it goes back to the old colour but my panels disappear.
I'm guessing that some XFCE files were messed up when the power dropped.
Can I just reset XFCE?
Oh, the other virtual machines on the server seem to be OK.
Thanks,
JP.

Looks like a few components crashed. If you have access to a xfce4-terminal, try running:
xfwm4 --replace
Barring that, before logging in, go to a text console, log in there and delete the contents of ~/.cache/sessions. Then log into the graphical session.

Thanks, that seems to have worked but did not complete. Came up with this:
20:~$ xfwm4 --replace
(xfwm4:1518): xfwm4-WARNING **: 08:56:34.214: Unsupported GL renderer (llvmpipe (LLVM 10.0.0, 128 bits)).
Should I be worried?
Thanks again,
JP.

See: https://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfwm4/-/issues/432
Quoted:
Unsupported GL renderer (llvmpipe (LLVM 9.0.1, 128 bits)) means the Mesa driver is the software renderer, not something xfwm4 can use for what it needs, so it's discarded - Basicalyl, it means you don't have hardware accelerated GL support on that device.

Deleting the
~/.cache/sessions
did the trick.
Thanks,
