Has A Redesign Of The Workspace Switcher Ever Been Considered?

I think something that could be collapsed and expanded would be nice and space saving.   The current version takes up a whole lot of panel space (so much, in fact, that I need two panels to accommodate the 8 workspaces I have plus all the stuff running in the notification area/status plugin).

How about the window menu plugin? Or you can you just middle click on the desktop to get a window menu as well.

For this you can look for a solution by creating other panel especially (and only) for workspaces plugin, with option of "intelligently hide" or "allways hide" (collapse & expand).
Easier and faster way...
