xfce4-panel 4.16.1 Transparency issue Arch 5.10 [SOLVED]

Hi All, first time poster. I searched the net and also the forums in here but I couldn't find the answer. I have an issue with panel and transparency. Basically when I set Opacity at 50% "on leave" it only covers half the panel. If I move it to vertical it fills a bit more transparent but not fully. Interestingly if I increase the Row Size (pixles) the transparency increases but it still doesn't fill up the whole panel.

Anyone know what might be causing this?

Re: xfce4-panel 4.16.1 Transparency issue Arch 5.10 [SOLVED]

Hello and welcome to the forums.

Which appearance theme are you using?
Do you have any overrides in ~/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css? If so, can you post the content?
Does restarting the panel ("xfce4-panel -r") make  difference?

Re: xfce4-panel 4.16.1 Transparency issue Arch 5.10 [SOLVED]

Hey thanks for responding. panel preference has none for the background style. Under my "Appearance" I am using the High Contrast theme.
I haven't created a file in ~/.config/gtk-3.0/ it is blank as well btw.
Restarting the panel or the OS didn't help and now the next day when I booted in the opacity covers less of the panel. I have added more items overnight.
It isn't a biggie as I can live without the opacity for now just thought it might have been a common problem with a simple solution. I am first time user of xfce, previously coming from Ubuntu/Gnome.

I can't seem to replicate this issue.

Is your panel the default panel at the top?
Can you post back your panel settings:

xfconf-query -c xfce4-panel -lv

What video card and driver are you using?

Are you using xfwm4 as the window manager and is the compositor turned on? (Settings Manager > Window Manager Tweaks > Compositor tab)

Re: xfce4-panel 4.16.1 Transparency issue Arch 5.10 [SOLVED]

Hi ToZ, it is the panel at the bottom. Panel 2 that is causing me issues. But I have modified some stuff in the top panel. mainly a Spotify script to show song name.

Output of command: https://paste.debian.net/1184661

I am on a dell latitude 7310 with Intel graphics card, um driver is....
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation UHD Graphics (rev 02) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
    DeviceName: Onboard - Video
    Subsystem: Dell Device 09cc
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 158
    Memory at eb000000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16M]
    Memory at 60000000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=256M]
    I/O ports at 3000 [size=64]
Expansion ROM at 000c0000 [virtual] [disabled] [size=128K]
    Capabilities: <access denied>
    Kernel driver in use: i915
    Kernel modules: i915

Every other video function is fine. I have expanded the panel to show you and included a screenshot:

Re: xfce4-panel 4.16.1 Transparency issue Arch 5.10 [SOLVED]

Hmm. That is odd.

Can you post back the results of the following commands:

xfconf-query -c xfce4-panel -p /panels/panel-2/plugin-ids
cat ~/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css
xfconf-query -c xsettings -p /Net/ThemeName
xfconf-query -c xfwm4 -p /general/use_compositing
xfce4-panel -V

Also, which distro are you using?

Re: xfce4-panel 4.16.1 Transparency issue Arch 5.10 [SOLVED]

If you turn the compositor off (Settings Manager > Window Manager > Compositor tab) does the shading disappear?

If you move the panel to the left, does less of the panel get covered with the shaded area?

Re: xfce4-panel 4.16.1 Transparency issue Arch 5.10 [SOLVED]

Thanks for helping ToZ. Not moving the panel does nothing, even if I make it vertical the problem persists. It is as if it doesn't know the full length of the panel. It is set to automatic increase lengh and i have it at the lowest length setting. However, even if I increase the length manually the problem persists.

Yes if I  turn off the compositor the transparency on the panel disappears completely.

Re: xfce4-panel 4.16.1 Transparency issue Arch 5.10 [SOLVED]

This bug report is somewhat similar. Can you try the suggestion there:

xprop -remove _NET_WM_OPAQUE_REGION

...and then click on the panel to see if it makes a difference?

I would suggest you post in that bug report so that the developer's are aware of your issue as well (same underlying cause but different presentation).
