Hi all. I'm new.
I'm running Mint 20.04, which I originally installed with Mate desktop. I wanted to try Xfce, however, so I installed that as well, after the fact, with Synaptic. I can now log out and change desktop environments easily. Unfortunately, I think that I may have a problem, but I'm not sure.
When I installed Xfce, there was no application menu at all, which was a little disconcerting. I can't remember what I did, but I got that fixed. I thought all was well until I realized that the menu only showed a small icon and the app name, but no description. That feature is really what drew me to Xfce in the first place. I see it on other distributions, but it is missing on my desktop. Is there anything I can do to have it, or to get it back?
I'm sorry, I don't know what version of Xfce I have, but it must be fairly recent, because I installed it through Synaptic only a month or two ago.
Can anybody help?

Right click on as you say "small icon", then properties and do your customization...nothing easier...

To add, its easier to display the description using the whiskermenu plugin. The applicationsmenu plugin, using peter.48's instructions, will only display the description in a tooltip. With the whiskermenu, you can display the description underneath the the application name in "List" or "Tree" mode.

Thank you, both, for your responses. I'll let you know how it turned out.

Sorry to be a problem, but... I installed the Whiskermenu plugin from Synaptic, but can't find it anywhere, or figure out how to launch it. Now, when trying peter.48's suggestion, I discover that right clicking does nothing more than launch any app, just as the left click does. Right clicking on an app in other DE's always gave me some options, but there are none here.

What appears at the top of the list if you right click on the Menu icon? Does it say Whisker Menu or something else?
It might be helpful to look at this output:
ls -l ~/.config/xfce4/panel

I think that I got it now. Whiskermenu is installed, side-by-side with my original Applications menu in the panel. I'd like to eliminate the original menu because it is now redundant, and Whiskermenu is better, anyway, (it solved my second problem, too). How do I mark this "Solved"?
Thanks again everyone.

I'm glad you got it sorted out!
On your first post of the thread click on the word Edit and you can make the change there.
