[ SOLVED ] Update drivers after CM + CPU + CG change !!

Hello,
my son having upgraded his PC, I got his old stuff back. : D
So I switched from a config based on

 ASRock AliveXFire-eSATA2 motherboard
AMD Phenom ™ processors
MSI GeForce GTX 660 N660 TF 2GD5 / OC graphics card

at

ASRock B85M-HDS motherboard
Intel® i5 processors
ASUS GeForce TURBO-GTX1060-6G graphics

To my astonishment the PC restarted well on the Intel card integrated into the motherboard but with a resolution of 640 X 480 sad

TV connected to HDMI displays a resolution of 1360 X 768 and can go up to 1920 X 1080 smile.

I don’t know how to install, uninstall, modify or configure drivers on Ubuntu and since I’ve had quite a bit of help in the past on this forum, I’m hoping to find someone who will help me again this time.

Thanks already to those who have had the patience to read me to the end.

Val.

----------------

Bonjour,

Processeurs AMD Phenom™
Carte graphique MSI GeForce GTX 660 N660 TF 2GD5/OC

à

 Carte mère ASRock B85M-HDS
processeurs Intel® i5
Carte graphique ASUS GeForce TURBO-GTX1060-6G

Val.

Greetings to you, and welcome back!

As far as I know, you have 2 ways to proceed: (1) update & upgrade your existing Ubuntu system incrementally to current release level (for example from 16.04.* to 20.04.*), or (2) built a fresh system by wiping/deleting the old partition(s)/volume(s) -- entirely your decision to make.

In my experience, if you decide to go with option (1), there's no predicting how this path will end and if you will end up having a "stable", reliable system. I know, this is not the answer you were hoping for, but there a number of technical reasons for my opinion that I shouldn't bore you with.

However, If you decide on option (2), your chances of installing a stable, reliable system are pretty good and I'd be glad to work through this refurbishing project with you ...

In  any event, it would be helpful to see what your system looks like right now. I suggest you run the follwing command in a terminal ...

inxi -Fxzi

and then copy/paste the command's output into your next reply. Thanks.

Cheers, m4a

Thank you for your answer, the problem of the intel card is solved, I now have the correct resolutions on my VGA-1 screen and on the HDMI-2 socket of the TV.

Everything else seems to be working fine.

I just have to run a script on startup.

#!/bin/sh
xrandr --newmode "1680x1050_60.00" 146.25 1680 1784 1960 2240 1050 1053 1059 1089 -hsync +vsync
xrandr --addmode VGA-1 1680x1050_60.00
xrandr -s 1680x1050_60.00
xrandr --output HDMI-2 --pos 1680x0 --mode 1360x768 --rate 60

All that remains is to remove the old NVIDIA drivers and install the ASUS GeForce TURBO-GTX1060-6G card.

Thank you again for your help.

#!/bin/sh
xrandr --newmode "1680x1050_60.00" 146.25 1680 1784 1960 2240 1050 1053 1059 1089 -hsync +vsync
xrandr --addmode VGA-1 1680x1050_60.00
xrandr -s 1680x1050_60.00
xrandr --output HDMI-2 --pos 1680x0 --mode 1360x768 --rate 60

Val.

Re: [ SOLVED ] Update drivers after CM + CPU + CG change !!

Fixed an issue where the graphics card's power plug was loose and the card was not receiving constant power.
