I encountered the below after upgrade Debian to bullseye:

this feature requires a file manager service to be present (such as the one supplied by thunar)

When one click on the desktop icon/launcher? Please help

Use the thunar 1.6 branch with xfdesktop 4.12 branch
   or
use the thunar 1.8 branch with the xfdesktop 4.13 branch.

You can't mix and match between these branches. This is a distro issue.
