Hi,
I have a fresh install of Ubuntu with XFCE4.
I want that all the users have firefox-esr as default web browser.
I tried to change the value in /etc/xdg-xubuntu/xfce4/helpers.rc from WebBrowser=firefox to WebBrowser=firefox-esr
But it did nothing for the users.
Any ideas ?
I need to do that by script.

I'd say something like:
sudo xdg-settings set default-web-browser firefox-esr.desktop
and/or:
sudo update-alternatives --set x-www-browser firefox-esr.desktop
sudo update-alternatives --set gnome-www-browser firefox-esr.desktop
In any case, you can check if Firefox ESR is registered as eligible for those commands with:
update-alternatives --list x-www-browser
update-alternatives --list gnome-www-browser
See https://wiki.debian.org/DefaultWebBrowser and https://askubuntu.com/questions/79305/h … 820#367820 for reference and discussion.

Hi @alcornoqui
sudo xdg-settings set default-web-browser firefox-esr.desktop
Is usefull but only for the current user, bnot all users.
And the
update-alternatives
returns :
update-alternatives --set x-www-browser /usr/share/applications/firefox-esr.desktop
update-alternatives: error: the alternativ /usr/share/applications/firefox-esr.desktop for x-www-browser is not registered; no configuration
