As far as I can tell everything is set correctly - and dynamic title stuff works just fine, but when I open a new terminal, the initial title is blank. Anybody else run into this?

Based on the settings shown, your initial title "localhost" is being replaced by a dynamically-set title. Somewhere in your initialization scripts, the title is being set to a blank string. If bash is the shell, look at your ~/.bashrc file or /etc/bashrc for system-wide configs.
What happens if you select "Isn't displayed" in the Dynamically-set title dropdown? Does "localhost" now show up on the title bar?

You are 100% correct. If I set the dropdown to 'does not replace' it shows up. I do not see anything in either mine or the global .bashrc file, but at least I now have something to look for - so I can take it from here. Thank you!
