Text is partially visible on desktop

Hello,

since yesterday evening my desktop suddenly only shows partial text strings. To be more specific, on all gtk apps the strings are all just four characters long:

The problem is visible everywhere: Thunar, Terminal, Title Bar, Clock...

Linux #### 5.4.0-71-generic #79-Ubuntu SMP Wed Mar 24 10:56:57 UTC 2021 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Xubuntu 4.16

I think my internet connection was interrupted when an update was installed. How could I fix this?

Edit: I tried reinstalling it with:

sudo apt-get purge xfce4*
sudo apt autoremove
sudo apt install xubuntu-desktop

Sadly without sucess. The problem is still exists.

Might you be using the oibaf PPA for MESA? This same issue occurred in Mint (for non Xfce users) because of that PPA.

I just wanted to say, that I have installed another distro (MX Linux) because I wanted to change the system in the near future anyway.

Heh, MX is my escape route these days too. I have a feeling that it's going to end up in all the desktops I maintain!
