Custom tiling regions

Hello! I have a wide monitor and the 2x2 grid is just too wide for me. Can I make, say, a tiling grid of 2x3, or even 2x4? Where in the code do I have to modify stuff? I'm assuming XFWM handles this stuff. Or is it too intertwined to support such a modification with reasonable effort? I'm somewhat comfortable writing C.

For those who don't know what I'm talking about, I mean this feature:

Now this is getting into somewhat deep waters, but perhaps I could also modify the shortcuts to be relative instead of absolute. On windows you can move a window over to the next tile by using winkey + arrow keys.

Re: Custom tiling regions

Barring that, maybe I could make a program to resize a window to a certain region, then add xfce keybinds to it. Thoughts?
